Don't Change Your Twitter Birthday to 2007

There’s a new Twitter prank going around that suggests that if you change your birthday to 2007, the year Twitter launched, you’ll be able to unlock a new color scheme, get admin privileges on the platform, get cash, or even get yourself a coveted blue verified check mark. There’s just one problem: doing so will actually get you booted from Twitter for being underage.

In order to have a Twitter account, you need to be at least 13 years old. If you were born in 2007, then you would only be 12, a year too young to be allowed an account.

As The Verge reports, the prank has gotten so widespread that Twitter Support actually released a warning telling people not to do it.

If you did fall victim to the stunt, all is not lost. Twitter says that you can get your account reinstated by contacting Twitter Support and uploading a photo of your government-issued ID, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of not dealing with Twitter support.
